The California Gold Rush helped contribute to Westward expansion by bringing an enormous amout of settlers. Half of the settlers were american and the other half were from Asia, Europe and prior slaves. People everywhere were rushing to get to Sacramento in hope of striking it rich from gold. The poplulation went from 14,000 to 100,000 in one year. Theyre were alot of bars and gambling places. A town burnt down to the ground 6 times and rebuilt in a period of 18 months. All in all, westward expansion was fueld on greed and desire of wealth and the old California's morals were thrown away.

Westward Expansion
1.) Manifest Destiny’s meaning, “obvious of undeniable”. This phrase was so influential that it caught the eye of Stephen F. Austin, a 27 year old. He though that the Untied States should own all the Pacific Northwest, including the southern border of Alaska. Not only did it catch the eye of Austin but it’s attention drew many other people, man and women alike. Since many people saw this they all know what they were fighting for and most of them agreed. When the war was over, since so many people believed in their right for the land they all fought with such power and strength that they won and were able to expanded their land.

2.) During the time of the Indian Removal Act in 1830 people made Indians move from there original land farther west. Andrew Jackson kept issuing the campaign to move the Indian from their original land. Congress did everything to get rid of the Indians, they bribed and even treated them to sign a document that said they would peacefully move. The Cherokee Indian were forced to move by Congress. This fits in to the westward expansion act because when the Indians move there is more room for the U.S.

3.) “The gold rush transformed California from a sleepy society into one that was wild, unruly, ethnically-diverse, and violent.” (http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/database/article_display.cfm?HHID=322 4). By this sentence you can see what the California Gold Rush did to California. Every one wanted to take part in the wealth that people completely forgot everything else. All they cared about was themselfs. They were becoming selfish. This took part in the westward expansion act because as people left for California they left there towns vacant or other wise know as ghost town. Again there was more land for the U.S. build upon and use.

1. When John O' Sullivan coined the term "Manifest Destiny", it gave many people in America an oppurtunity to settle in the far west. It was used as an emotion to motivate people and get them to migrate west. People where encouraged to have big dreams. Some people thought that it was fate in a way, because they could start something new. It was a big decision, because people would risk their lives to do this travel to the west. Manifest destiny linked to Westward Expansion because it led expansionists to think that the US should expand to the entire Northwest until you got to the southern border of Alaska. Also, Manifest Destiny encouraged farmers, pioneers, and missionaries to think of a bigger picture when it came to using the land. The bigger picture would be transforming plains and fertile valleys into farms and small towns.
2. The Indian Removal Act created a process where the President could grant land west of the mississippi to the tribes if they agreed to give up their homelands. This law gave the Indians their incentives to travel too there new living locations and start their lives under the protection of the government. Also, this act allowed Jackson and his follwers to threaten, bribe, and persuade tribes to sign removal treaties and make them leave the Southwest. The Cherokee tribe basically fought for their land, but were basically kicked out through fighting. The Cherokee tribe made a route to the dry plains across the mississippi that was called the Trail of Tears. About three to four thousand Cherokees died while on this route. The Indian Removal Act fits in with westward expansion, because it caused the Indians to head more and more West, which helped The US gain more land.
3. The California Gold Rush of 1849 transformed California from a slow and quiet town, to a booming, crazy, and rough place to be. But it was violent, because people were doing everything in there power to get gold. Many people killed for gold, such as the murders named the forty niners. California was corrupt in a way, that hurt many people. The California Gold Rush of 1849 linked to westward expansion, because it caused thousands of people to head out west and expand all around California to look for gold. The population grew from 14,000 to a 100,000 in California.

1.) Manifest Destiny means "Obvious destiny or fate" Using this phrase helped people to be motivated and encouraged to move westward. This had a huge impact of the Westward Expansion because it set an idea in people's minds which cause them to believe it was their destiny to move towards the west. Manifest destiny inspired Stephen Austin to talk highly of colonizing the Mexican province of Texas with "North American population, enterprise and intelligence."

2.)The Indian Removal Act of the 1830's had a huge impact of westward expansion. It was an act that granted the President right to claim land west of the Mississippi River. Thousands of Cherokee Indians died during their migration. 15,000 Indians traveled the trail of tears which took months to travel.

3.)The Impact of the California Gold rush was that thousands and thousands of mostly men traveled toward California to try to dig for gold and get rich fast. The Gold Rush changed California drastically. It went from being a sleepy town to a filled population that was always busy, and somewhat violent. By the 1860's the California Gold rush was completely over. This would change the sleepy, quiet town of California to a big Industrial city. This links towards westward expansion because in as little as five years, the United States had increased in size by a third and gained many areas that now includes the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

The phrase expressed romantic emotion that led Americans to risk their lives to settle the Far West.

How does Manifest Destiny link to westward expansion?
Many americans believe that it was Americas destiny to stretch across the continent which motivated people to migrate towards the West.

2. President Andrew Jackson issued the Indian Removal Act in 1830. Explain the details of this act.
Jackson pushed a new piece of legislation called the "Indian Removal Act" through both houses of Congress. It gave the president power to negotiate removal treaties with Indian tribes living east of the Mississippi. Under these treaties, the Indians were to give up their lands east of the Mississippi in exchange for lands to the west. Those wishing to remain in the east would become citizens of their home state. This act affected not only the southeastern nations, but many others further north. The removal was supposed to be voluntary and peaceful, and it was that way for the tribes that agreed to the conditions. But the southeastern nations resisted, and Jackson forced them to leave.

Wherever gold was discovered, camps were set up. Each camp came with a saloon and gambling house. Even though people were excited, they followed frontier justice. Because California was a colony, and not part of the union, there were no officials to monitor what was going on. This consisted of some of the miners forming self-governing bodies.

1. Manifest destiny is a phrase that means to Americans expression of the romantic emotion that led Americans to risk their lives to settle the Far West. It was based on the idea that America had a special destiny to stretch across the continent motivated many people to migrate west. It encouraged people to bream big and that’s what people did when the westward expansion happened. A great example is what Herman Melville wrote, "We Americans, are the peculiar, chosen people--the Israel of our time."

2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 had a lot to do with the Louisiana Purchase. This act was necessary because America wanted to expand westward and the Indians were in their way. The Indian removal act stated by Jackson to the Indians, “There, your white brothers will not trouble you, they will have no claims to the land, and you can live upon it, you and all your children, as long as the grass grows or the water runs, in peace and plenty.”

3. The California Gold Rush had a big part in the westward expansion because it was the main reason people moved west. They wanted to make there good life better by trying to get a lot of money be mining gold. The gold was discovered 10 days after the peace treaty was signed to end the Mexican War.

1)Manifest destiny is a policy of imperialism rationalized as inevitable. It links to westward expansion because it inspired a 29 year old named Stephen Austin to talk grandly of colonizing the Mexican province of Texas with North American population.

2)The Indian Removal Act of 1830 began at the time Jackson took office. The Cherokee nation opened schools, established churches, built roads and operated printing presses. By 1820s, Native Americans demonstrated the ability to adapt to changing conditions.

3)The impact of the California Gold Rush in 1849 that the population of San Francisco increased. The population went from 459 in the summer of 1847 to 20,000. This links to Westward Expansion because the gold rush transformed California into a very wild place.

The California Gold Rush links to westward expansion by, when james Marshall found gold in sutter's mill the newspaper told about the gold in California so everyone rushed there to try and become rich. also the gold rush encouraged a lot of immigrants from Britain, Australia, Germany, France, Latin America and China came to California. in 1849 80,000 men came to California but only half of them were Americans. The population in California had gone from 14,000 to 100,000. also, the price of living increased, food and tools cost more in California than in any other state.

1. Manifest Destiny was the belief that Americans should move westward. They believed they should own the entire Pacific Northwest all the way up to Alaska. They went to war with Mexico to gain even more land, which resulted in the gain of Texas. They wanted to remove the Indians from their land and take it for their own. The thought of America’s destiny being westward expansion caused people to risk their lives in order to gain western lands.

2. The Removal Acts gave Georgia the right to remove the Native Americans in order to continue westward expansion. Assimilation was first suggested. Assimilation was the conversion of the Natives to white practices. Thomas Jefferson later suggested that the only way for their culture to survive is to remove them from the desired land. The Native Americans took their problem to congress and congress ruled in their favor. Andrew Jackson did not agree with the ruling over ruled them.

3. The California gold rush was the result of James W. Marshal’s finding of gold. Thousands of people rushed to California in search of easy money. Most people were unsuccessful, but some were incredibly lucky. This is a large reason for westward expansion. Anyone remotely close to California packed up and left and masses of people flowed into California. The population rocketed up at an amazing rate causing westward movement and quick settling.

John L. O'Sullivans magazine was referred to America's “Manifest Destiny to overspread the continent allotted buy Providence for the free developed of our yearly multiplying millions.” Manifest destiny was a slogan that expressed the romantic emotion that led Americans to the risk their lives to settle the Far West. The reason why people moved west was the idea that America had a special destiny to stretch across the continent. It encouraged people to dream big. Manifest destiny inspired those who dreamed only of transforming plains and fertile valleys into farms and small towns such as missionaries, farmers, and pioneers.
Manifest Destiny was related to Westward Expansion because it was an idea of the US government that North America was theirs to conquest and settle such to an extent that it was a divine right. It changed American beliefs and culture, and it led to hardships. Westward Expansion was a simplified list of the land that the US owned that began with American independence. The government saw opportunities for more land as well as more political power. Native Americans moved westward because they believed that the expansion was visible and unalterable. As the US made its boundaries larger, more branches were established to serve the nation that was growing.

1. The Phrase “Manifest Destiny” is an expression that shows the emotion that led Americans to settle in the West and risk their lives to achieve their dream. Many people were inspired by Americans moving west and accomplishing their dreams, so many more people moved west too. “Manifest Destiny” linked to Westward Expansion because many people migrated to the West and nationalists wanted America to expand into Cuba and Central America.
2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was thought to have been the only way for the Native Americans to survive in society. The Acts goal was to encourage Indians to migrate west so they could live freely and not be harassed by the whites. The Cherokee nation fell because the state abolished tribal rule and the tribe fell under its power and law. The Indian Removal Act links with Westward Expansion because the act wanted the Native Americans to move west to prevent from getting harassed.
3. The California Gold Rush in 1849 had a large impact. 80,000 men arrived in California after they heard the news about the finding of Gold in California. Soldiers came, sailors jumped ships, farmers and business men left their work places, some men even left their wives after hearing about the gold. California’s population only grew bigger and bigger as time went on, and what used to be a boring dull place transformed into a place of utter chaos and violence. The California Gold Rush links with Westward Expansion because California is in the west and thousands of people moved west to California to find Gold.

1.)
Manifest destiny is a term that describes the drive for western expansion. It literally means that it is inevitable. Three things make up that drive. They include; spreading christianity, room for population growth, and money. Manifest Destiny is the reason that western expanision occured. Advocates of Manifest Destiny believed that expansion was not only ethical but that it was readily apparent and essential.

2.) The Indian Removal Act:
The key political issues were whether these Native American peoples would be permitted to block white expansion and whether the U.S. government and its citizens would abide by previously made treaties. The primary thrust of Jackson’s removal policy was to encourage Native Americans to sell their homelands in exchange for new lands in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Fifteen thousand Cherokee joined in a protest against Jackson’s policy. The federal government bribed a faction of the tribe to leave the land in exchange for transportation costs and $5 million, but most Cherokees held out until 1838, when the army evicted them from their lands. This is similiar to westward expansion b/c they both came in with force and didnt necesarilly be to nice about it.

3.) The gold rush transformed California. It was a sleepy society and one that was turned into a wild, unruly, ethnically-diverse, and violent place. In 1849, 80,000 men arrived in California--half by land and half by ship. It was similiar to westward expansion because there was a huge flock of migration at one time. People both had a common goal in mind. Lastly, they both have in common that they greatly increased the size of the United States.

1. The term "manifest destiny" is the belief that the United States needed to be stretched across the continent from coast to coast. This has to do with the westward expansion because since we now believed that we had to have more and more land we kept spreading our country farther and farther west until we got to the other coast.

2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 stated that it was now illegal for any Native Americans to live east of the Mississippi River. The Cherokees decided to ignore that because they did not care what we said. But Andrew Jackson forced them out and this was known as the Trail of Tears. This fits in with the westward expansion because it shows that we wanted more land and we were willing to do whatever we needed to do to get the land that we wanted.

3. The impact of the California Gold Rush was that it changed how Americans lived. Almost everyone wanted to move over to California to achieve their goal of the "American Dream." Everyone thought that this would be a very easy way to get money, and get it quickly. This is important to the westward expansion because now everyone was going all the way west to live and find gold and get rich.

1. Manifest Destiny is the thought that America had the God given right to take control of all North America. This relates to westward expansion by encouaging travelers and traders to move out west. 2. The details of this act were that all of the cherokee tribe had to move west to the other side of the Mississippi River. The Cherokee then had to take the long journey to across the Mississippi river, but in this process many died. This affected the Westward expansion by giving America more land to use for recources. 3. The Gold Rush increased the population of CA Greatly and the prices there rose dramaticly. This is linked to westward expansion by attracting all kinds of people to American land.

The California Gold rush had to do with Westward Expansion because when everyone was hearing there was gold there they fled to California to get some of their own. James Marshall first noticed it on John Sutter's land and started telling other workers that he had found a gold mine. The newspapers found out about this and published the work talking about the gold which led everyone to go west. The population of California kept going up and up starting at 14,000 and going to 100,000. The reputation of California changed drastically, it went from being a sleepy society to one that was wild and violent. People came from all over to find and get this gold that would make them rich.

The California Gold Rush was a milestone for the history of the United States. Gold was first discovered in California by James Marshall in early 1848. The Gold was found at Sutter's Mill and after gold was found it was a race from there on out. Later that year, gold seekers from the west coast went searching for gold to make fortune or become broke. By 1849 thousands pf people were on their way to California. Some traveled overland which established the Oregon Trail. Other settlers came from Europe and Asia by boat.
Another group of gold seekers were slaves who also were trying to make a fortune. Lastly, the gold seekers were known as "49ers" because of them leaving home in 1849. The California Gold Rush was a historic event that will always be remembered.

1. Manifest Destiny is the idea that America had the special destiny to stretch across the continent. This motivated many people to travel west and settle on new land. Manifest Destiny inspired Stephen Austin to acquire Mexican land in Texas. Manifest Destiny is linked to westward expansion because it inspired missionaries, farmers, and pioneers to move west and build a farm on the land.

2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 stated that all Native Americans could not be on lands east of the Mississippi river. This land was considered American territory regardless of the treaty that allowed the Native Americans to be on the land. The Cherokee nation was forced to move west due to Andrew Jackson siding with the states on the grounds of states rights.

3. The impact of the California Gold Rush was that it attracted thousands of settlers to the California area due to the thought of fortune. The gold rush turned California from a sleepy society into one that was wild, unruly, ethnically diverse and violent. The gold rush attracted about 100,000 settlers west because the people wanted a get rich quick opportunity.

1. Manifest Destiny links to the westward expansion by encouraging men and women to dream big. Manifest Destiny showed the romantic emotions for the Americans to settle in the west. It also inspired the people living there to make the large plains into small towns. Manifest Destiny particularly inspired Stephen F. Austin. This helped him fight against Mexico for his country.

2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was an act that president Jackson signed saying that all Indians had to move west and out of American Territory. The Cherokee nation argued the act because there was treaties already signed saying that they were allowed in that territory. The court could not pass any laws going against the treaties that were already signed. Then president Jackson argued the court saying that John Marshall made his decision so they must enforce it. So the Cherokee nation had to go west over the Mississippi. The Indian Removal Act fits with westward expansion because the nations of the Indians were forced to settle in the west.

3. The California Gold Rush in 1849 impacted the United States and other countries. The California Gold Rush was founded by James Marshall in 1848 in San Francisco. The word got out and people from everywhere were coming in. In one year, the city went from 14,000 people to 100,000 people. Some struck gold and some went home with nothing. The men who were mining for gold were called the Forty-Niners because the year was 1849. The California Gold Rush in 1849 links to westward expansion because numbers of people were headed to the west in search of gold.

1. Manifest Destiny means to overspread the continent given by Providence for the free development of peoples yearly multiplying millions.Manifest Destiny showed the romantic emotion that would lead Americans to risk their lives to settle the West. This made Stephen F. Austin to talk about the colonization of the meaxican province of Texas. This made the expansionists think the the United States should have all the land to the far west.

2.The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was the moving of all the Indian groups from the the East farther west. They moved farther west because the settlers said it was their land and now the Indians have to leave. The Cherokee nation suffered the most because they refused to leave their land. The settlers made them walk the Trail of Tears where many of the Native Americans died when moving westward. This ties into westward expansion because the settlers were forceing the Native Americans to move farther West so they could move into land that is farther west.

3.The California Gold Rush in 1849 was when a man named James W. Marshall, a 36-year old carpenter and handyman, noticed several bright bits of yellow mineral near a sawmill that turned out to be gold nuggets. On March 15 a San Francisco newspaper, The Californian, printed the first account of Marshall's discovery. Within two weeks, the paper had lost its staff and was forced to shut down its printing press because all the employees had left for the gold rush to try and get rich quick. This is linked to westward expanision because everyone was moving west to try and find gold to get rich quick.

1. Manifest Destiny means something is going to happen no matter what. This phrase links to the westward expansion because it was inevitable that people would start to migrate West because of the population in the East. Also, because the press put so much attention on the gold rush, it encouraged people even more to migrate. Manifest destiny links to the westard expansion because to John Sullivan, it also meant free devlopment across the country.
2. The indian removal act of 1830 was when the Supreme Court handed down a decision which stated that Indians could occupy lands within the United States, but could not hold title to those lands. The Cherokee were forced out of their homelands and were encouraged to take on white American customs. Soon, the Cherokee were adapted to their new way of living. They open schools, built roads, and established many churches. This fits into the westward expansion because it made indains move farther west into different lands.
3. The California gold rush impacted the country greatly. It started with one man finding gold in his land, and the press made the rest happen. Not only was everyone gold crazy, and rushing out to California, but hardly any of the people that migrated out there, found gold. Instead of everyone becoming richer, many people lost alot of money because they spent it all on te journey that was suppose to make them rich. This relates to the westward expransion because in 1849, 80,000 men arrived in California, hoping to strike gold. In the 1850's women only made up 8% of the population because of all the miners that moved west.

1)When "Manifest Destiny" was coined by O'Sullivan it described the natural destiny to spread west. The term links to the westward expansion because it inspired people to move and find new land. Many more radical people proposed that the natives be moved from their current spots. Other people wanted to move into teas and engage the Spanish in war over the territory. Overall, the "Manifest Destiny" helped make a push to move and expand towards the west coast.

2)The Indian Removal Act issued by Andrew Jackson was a document that forced all American Indians to move west of the Mississippi River. Many tribes said that it was unfair to be moved from the lands entitled theirs by the peace meetings and treaties they signed. As several tribes fought physically, such as the Blackhawks, others went to courts, like the Cherokee. The Cherokee proposed their case to the Supreme Court and one, but President Jackson said that the individual states had their rights, by which many states used to force the natives west, creating more room for pioneers to settle.

3)In 1848 a man named James Marshall was the first of very many men to find gold in California. Marshall's find helped spark a whole new movement called the California Gold Rush. Newspapers and daily articles quickly spread word of the gold and in 1849 at least 80,000 men had moved into California. The westward expansion had been so greatly advanced as men tried to achieve a new, corrupt, American Dream, get rich fast. the population in the western states severely increased, yet so did crimes due to people fighting each other over the extremely valuable gold.

1) The term manifest destiny was used in the 1900s that the United States was destined to expand and take over much of North America. The term manifest destiny means the belief that it was destiny for U.S. to expand its territory over North America and to extend social, politic, and economic influences. It means it was destiny the United States became the most powerful country in the world. Believed that God’s will for the American people was to expand coast to coast. Meaning a policy of imperialism rationalized as inevitable

2) Andrew Jackson thought of the Indian Removal Act of 1830 to let the Native Americans be free from white settlement harassment. Jackson favored removal as a solution to the controversy between Indians and the state of Georgia. Pushmataha, a Choctaw chief, rejected Jackson’s order. Jackson warned that if they reject the offer there nation would be destroyed. During the winter or 1831, started the Trail of Tears. Cherokees moving westward so they would not be destroyed. About 3,500 of the 15,000 died on their way.

3) Discovered in 1848, James W. Marshall saw yellow mineral near a sawmill. Unsure if it was real he hit the gold with a hammer and found that it could be formed into different shapes but it would not be broken. In 1849, 80,000 men came to California to search for gold. In the beginning, only men came to California but soon families were coming over. California’s population before the gold was at 14,000 and resulted in 100,000 from the findings of gold.

1) ManifestDestiny means, "to overspread the continent allotted by providence for the free development of our yearly multiplied millions." manifest Destiny encouraged men and women to dream big dreams. The destiny inspired missionaries, farmers, and pioneers, who dreamed only of transforming plains and fertile valleys into farms and small towns. soon all of these people spread westward and formed what is the west today.
2) The primary reason for the Indian Removal Act was to encourage Native Americans to sell their homelands in exchange for new lands in oklahoma and arkansas. In 1831, the Choctaw tribe were the first to walk the "trail of tears." The gov't promised to assist them but never did. malnutrition, exposure, and a cholera epidemic killed many of the nation. Thousands of people from different tribes died. If you were and indian and you resisted removal you were to be bound in chains and marched in double file. This fits in with westward expansion because it shows the hardships of the native peoples.
3) The california gold rush cause californias population to sky rocket dramatically. From the year 1849 to the year 1850 the population increased 14,000 to 100,000. The population of san francisco in the summer of 1847 was 459, by a few months later it was 20,000. The gold rush transformed california into a "wild," diverse society. In the end the gold rush turned california into a "ghost town," because it only lasted three to five years.

1. The concept of Manifest Destiny was created by John O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan summed up the term by coining the term. "To overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions," was how O'Sullivan summed it up. This term has to do with the the Westward Expansion by stating the importance of moving into different areas, like California and Texas. It is also what inspired Stephen F. Austin to begin to consider bringing Texas into the Union.

2. In 1830, Andrew Jackson wanted to remove Indians from the country. Nearly 130,000 Indians still owned properties when Jackson took office. The Indian Removal Act was designed to push the Indians westward, towards the Midwest. However, Jackson's main goal was to get the Indians to sell their property and move to Oklahoma and Arkansas. However, many Indians objected to Jackson's offer, and ultimately, they were forced to leave. This began the Trail of Tears, in which 15,000 Indians moved westward. At the end, about 11,000 Indians remained.

3. In 1849, at Sutters Mill, a 36-year old carpenter named James Marshall struck gold in a sawmill in California. Overnight, due to heavy press coverage, workers began flooding to California to try to strike gold again, although many were unsuccessful. Eventually, due to all of the workers flooding into California at once, the gold supply ran out, and within five years, the Gold Rush was over. This impacted the Westward Expansion because suddenly everyone started moving to California with the hopes that they too would strike gold.

1)The risk that Americans took to settle far westis expressed through the slogan "Manifest Destiny". The slogan inspired people, because they felt it was their destiny to stretch far west. It encouraged many people to start dreaming bigger, such as America owning the entire Pacific Northwest. Farmers, missionaries, and pioneers were inspired to turn the fertile plains into farmland. But, other nationalists were inspired to promote Indian removal, war with mexico, and American Expansion into Cuba and Central America.
2)Thomas Jefferson had suggested that Indian tribes move Westward to avoid AMerican settler's harassment. Andrew Jackson tried to encourage Native AMericans to sell their homelands for new lands in Oaklahoma and Arkansas. Other tribes started taking the trail of tears, but the cherokee refused. The Governmet tried to bribe them with $5 million and transportation costs, but most didnt leave untill 1838, when they were evicted from their land.It encouraged western expansion because since the natives were out of the way, Americans could start pushing further West settling and exploring and creating more states.
3)Once news of gold struck the country, everyone abandones everything to travel to California to try and get rich. By 1849, 80,000 men traveled to California, only half AMerican and the rest Australian, British, Chineese, German, and Latin American. By 1950, over 500 ships were abandoned in San Fransisco Bay and the population of California had rocketed from 14,000 to 100,000. California had gone from a quiet, sleepy state to a wild, unruly, and violent state were thousands of murders were happening, but only one convicted.

The term "Manifest Destiny" means that it was the United states' destiny for its territory to be expanded over the whole North of America. It links to Westward Expansion because it helped make the economy stronger and helped America grow.

The Indian Removal Act was an act that was supposed to move Indians to another location in America. The reason for this was that 5 states wanted that land for themselves but the Indians that were already living there were in their way. The Indians were forced to sign treadies and move away. The cherokee were forced to go on a journey to another place to live. The Indian Removal act helped shape Western Expansion because when the Indians were forced to leave the west was being discovered and pioneered and people were moving by the thousands.

The California Gold Rush in 1849 was a big impact on westward expansion because people moved out west to mine for gold. They created boom towns and ghost towns all within the same week. This made Americans want to move out west and people ended up staying there creating towns and helped the economy with all the gold coming in.

Ans 1. John O'Sullivan used the term manifest destiny to promote the annexation of Texas and the Oregon country to the united states .
Aggressive nationalists invoked the idea to justify Indian removal, war with Mexico, and American expansion into Cuba and Central America. More positively, the idea of manifest destiny inspired missionaries, farmers, and pioneers, who dreamed only of transforming plains and fertile valleys into farms and small towns.

Ans 2.At the time of Jackson 125000 native Americans lived west of the Mississippi river in over millions of acres of land .
The main political issues at that time were the native Americans would be permitted to block the white expansion or the govt and the citizens would have to abide the previous made treaties .
Jefferson had 2 choices :-
1)assimilation :- in which they will encourage the native American's to adopt the custom beliefs and cultures of the white people
or
2)removal :- to move all the native tribes westwards

Cherokee :- The Cherokee people had adopted a constitution asserting sovereignty over their land. The state responded by abolishing tribal rule and claiming that the Cherokee fell under its jurisdiction. The discovery of gold on Cherokee land triggered a land rush, and the Cherokee nation sued to keep white settlers from encroaching on their territory .

Ans 3.The main impact of California gold rush was that it made it transformed California from a sleepy society into a busy region.
People not only from America but from all of the world came down to California for the gold .
It links to westward expansion as the people moved from all around the world to the west to make a better living .

1. Manifest Destiny expressed the romantic emotion that led Americans to risk their lives to settle the Far West. Manifest Destiny caused men and women to dream big dreams. Manifest Destiny is linked to westward expansion because it caused many people to believe and dream of owning their own land. The idea of manifest destiny inspired missionaries, farmers, and pioneers, who dreamed only of transforming plains and fertile valleys into farms and small towns.

2. During the indian removal act Native Americans that still lived east of the Mississippi river were forced to move to the west. The Cherokee Indians traveled on the Trail of Tears westward. The Cherokee had demonstrated the ability of Native Americans to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining their tribal heritage. The Indian Removal Act fits with westward expansion because the indians were forced to move west it gave the people more places to live and farm. They had the advantage.

3. The California Gold Rush persuaded man young and old men to come out west and dig. This was the first time in history we saw what people thought the American Dream was, to get rich quick. Not all men that moved out there got very rich. Some didn't get much at all. This links to westward expansion because thousands and thousands of people just kept moving out west and that's what the American's wanted. The land out west.

1. Manifest destiny is a very powerful term. The actual definition for it is obvious or undeniable fate. The term is usually used in a very persuasive way. I say that because it was used to urge people to get rid of the Native Americans or go to war with Mexico. It gave faith to small farmers living on plains.

1. Manifest destiny is an argument that it was undeniable fate of the united states to expand across North America. It links toward western expansion because it basically told the united states to expand across the country.

2. Andrew Jackson hoped the removal of the American Indians would resolve Georgia's crisis. There also was removal treaties and if they were not agreed to there would be a removal war to try to push the native americans out of Georgia. The Cherokee got moved out of Georgia and into the Mid West region. The movement would be known as the trail of tears. The indian removal act fits with western expansion because they are pushing the Native americans to the western part of the U.S. and eventually the American would just take the land over again from the Indians.

3.The impact of the California Gold rush was it brought a huge migration of people to the west of the United States. The press had a lot to do with it because they put it in the papers alerting people about the discovery of gold in California. This caused a uprising of population in California. Also immigrants came over from other countries to try to find gold. Gold was first found in Sutters mill.

1. The term Manifest Destiny represent the romanticized idea that is was U.S.'s right "to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.". This incredibly famous quote was used to justify the pioneers insatiable want for land, and there westward push.

2. The Indian Removal Act, issued by Andrew Jackson relocated Native Americans to the east of the Mississippi to reserves in the west, under threat of the annihilation of there nation if they did not comply. Indian Tribes, like the Cherokee, for forced to walk the "trail of tears" as they wore forced west. During the journey west over 4,000 Cherokee died alone, out of a population of 15,000. But even the land set aside for them was so taken again as they were removed and placed in to small limited reserves to make room for more people moving west.

3. The California Gold Rush caused a massive boost to the population of California, with in a year of it start the population rose from 14,000 to over 100,000. This also caused a massive boost in immigration to the U.S, half of the new comers were from Britain, Germany, Australia, France, China, and Latin America. This created a breading ground for lots of crimes and injustices based on race or ethnicity. Despite its short lived nature the California Gold Rush created rapid migration to the west the sent the colonization of the west years ahead.

Manifest Destiny means “Undeniable fate.” John L O’Sullivan said this because he believed that it was our destiny as Americans to continue to explore westward. A novelist by the name of Herman Melville a great novelist said that we are the chosen people, an Israel of our time. This directly relates to Manifest Destiny because if focuses on America being important and our need to take over more land. Manifest Destiny is linked to westward expansion because it made American settlers believe it was their right to move westward.
The Indian Removal Act stated that all Native Americans had to move westward. The details of this act was that American wanted a white dominated society and all Native Americans had to move into reserved land west of the Mississippi. However a tribe of Indians called the Cherokee adapted well to this change, they opened schools, roads, operated printing presses, and even made their own constitution. This is linked to westward expansion because since many Native Americans were forced to move west the west’s population greatly expanded.
The California gold rush was a very large and famous event in American History that greatly influenced the west’s population. A 36 year old carpenter struck gold near a saw mill in California when he saw yellow minerals there. When the government found out about this they quickly spread the news through press. Soon many males in search of wealth flooded over to California. This is linked to westward expansion because many settlers moved to California and stayed there and it increased the population.

1. The phrase "Manifest Destiny" meant the romantic emotion that influenced Americans to settle in the west. The people also risked their lives for the journey. It also encouraged the people to dream big. It links to westward expansion because it encouraged the people to settle west and take a risk. The manifest destiny was probably the cause of westward expansion because it gave Americans the idea to do it.
2. The act was determining whether the Native Americans would be allowed to stay on their own land or not. The Cherokee nation started their own schools, churches, printing press, and also established their own constitution. Unfortunately their tribes started to fall because of the Indian Removal Act. Most indians started moving west and many died from diseases and not enough food. It fits in with westward expansion because the indians also decided to move north once the Indian Removal act occurred.
3. The California Gold Rush had a huge impact. In 1849 80,000 men had moved to California for gold. The Gold Rush was very similar to westward expansion. Again people had rapidly moved across the country in search for work. They were also in search for settlement.

Both men and women started dreaming big and setting goals because of the Manifest Destiny. The Manifest Destiny inspired people. It brought up many key ideas like making Texas and Alaska part of the United States.

2. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 pushed all Native Americans westward. They forced all Indians to Oklahoma and Arkansas. This trip was called the Trail of Tears. Many Indians died on this trip. Since all Native Americans were forced to relocate that left good farm land for people in the East. So this would cause more people to migrate to the West.

3. In 1848 John Sutter discover gold on his fields in California. The news hit newspaper and people and the east started moving westward quickly. Some people found gold and most did not. Because of the gold discovery that left many cities with no people in them, giving them the name ghost towns. The Gold Rush also brought up a new city, San Francisco.

1. The point of the phrase is that it says it is America'sdestiny to migrate west. It aloud people to dream big. It was a risk but they wanted to do it. This linksto wwestward expansion because people now wanted to explore there. Due to all of this they started westward expansion because they wanted to see what it was like.

2.The main reason for this act was to ensure the Indian culture. Jefferson wanted to some how expand westward without interupting the Indians. THe discovery of gold on Cherokee land triggered a land rush. This caused many problems. They were forced to move westward and many tribe members died along the way. The Indian Removal Act fits with westward expansion because America wanted to move more west but the Indians were in thei way.

3.The impact of the California Gold Rush is that there was a person who found a gold mine. It was soon public and people from all over the world came there in search of gold. The population grew rapidly. It went from 14,000 to 100,000 people in California. This links to westward expansion because more people settled in westward territory.

1.) Manifest destiny motivated people to move west. This encouraged men and women to dream big. The United States wanted to own the Pacific Northwest all the way to the southern border of Alaska. John O'Sullivan said it was America's destiny to move westward. This inspired missionaries to move out west. Farmers and Pioneers wanted to transform plains into fertile valleys and farms.

2.) The Indian Removal Act was just that. The white settlers wanted to move the Indians west out of the land they wanted. The Indians owned millions of acres of fertile land that the white settlers wanted. The Indians were told to move west to be free from white harassment. There was, however, great controversy between the Cherokee and Georgia. The Cherokee had a constitution of their own that said the white settlers can not take away what they have. The state tried to abolish tribal rule. Gold was found on the Cherokee land. Cherokee sued Georgia. They said they could not pass laws conflicting Indian treaties. This fits in with Westward Expansion because the Indians were forced to move west.

3.) James W. Marshall was the first to spot gold during the California Gold Rush. He was building a sawmill for John A. Sutter when he saw sparkling specks of gold. At first he thought it was "fool's gold" so he hit it with a hammer and it didn't break so he realized it was actually real gold. Within two weeks of this, the printing presses began to shut down and they were losing staff members. This links to Westward Expansion because people began moving west to find more gold.

Manifest destiny is obvious or undeniable fate. Manifest destiny was written in 1845 by O'Sullivan. This started settlers moving coast to coast. This led to the westward expansion because all of the settlers were moving and it cause a argument with the Native Americans. Manifest destiny overspread, process the whole of the continent which providence of liberty and federated self-government entrusted to United States. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 law calling for the president to give Native Americans land in parts of the Louisiana Purchase in exchange for land taken from them in the East. Forced Native Americans west of Mississippi River. It bacame a legal battle, the Cherokees did not want to move. The state of Georgia seized about nine million acres of Indian land. Georgia's action was unconstitutional and the Native Americans went to the Supreme court. President Jackson backed states rights. Fed government couldnt stop Georgia from extending authorit over Cherokee. 15,000 Cherokees moved westward. The California Gold Rush in 1849 mass migration to California following the discovery of gold in 1848, in Sutters Mill. A news filled the papers in the eatern US and Americans touched by gold fever rushed wat by thousands. The majority of immigrants were unmarried men. The women and children made up only five percent of the "49ers" who went to California. African Americans both enslaved and free took part in the gold rush as well. The gold rush had a tremendous impact on life in California.

1.) Manifest Destiny meant, "obvious of undeniable".Manifest Destiny inspired a 29-year old man named Steven F. Austin who talked a lot of colonizing the Mexican province Texas with North America. After this happened expansionists started to say that the United States should own the entire Pacific Northwest, all the way up to Alaska. The Americans wanted expansion into Cuba and Central America. This term "Manifest Destiny" inspired many people such as missionaries, farmers, and pioneers, who always dreams to transform plains, and valleys into farms and small towns.

2.) Jackson's policy on the act was that Native Americans would sell their homelands and move west to Arkansas and Oklahoma. This act was made because Jackson didn't wanted the Indians in the way of westward expansion. Their was gold found on Cherokee land witch cause many settlers to rush out there. The Cherokees sued to keep white settlers from encroaching on their territory. The court decided that white settlers had to stay off Cherokee land. This linked to westward expansion because by enforcing the act Indians would make room for settlers moving west to expand the nations population.

3.) In 1848 tiny pieces of gold was found by a man named James W. Marshall. A San Francisco newspaper "the Californian" posted an article about the gold. In 1849 80,000 men from all different countries came looking for gold. The Gold Rush linked to westward expansion because the population in that one state went up from 14,000 to 100,000. 1. The term "Manifest Drstiny" literally means undeniable fate. By using the certain phrase O'Sullivan was encouraging the American people to move westward. Manifest destiny promoted the people to leave thiers homes in the east to move out west. It told the people that their future would be there. They could obtain more land and better lives out west.

2. The Indian Removal Act issued by president Andrew Jackson forced the Native Americans living on the newly purchased land to move farther west. This act put into motion the Trail of Tears by the Cherokee Nation. This act mostly affected their nation because during this long and painful journey many of the indians died as a result of diease. This act fits in with the westward expansion because it shows the effect. This act shows the pain our nation caused the Indians.

3. The impact of the California Goldrush was that it transformed California froma little town to the spot that everyone wanted to be. The goldrush created hope for some families trying to make it big in the west. The goldrush also created "ghosttowns" because many ould build towns on hope of finding such gold but ending up hurting them. The California Goldrush of 1849 links to westward expansion because it created a stir in the west. The goldrush promoted the West as a place of new oppertunites. This enticed families to move there.

The term Manifest Destiny means "Obvious Fate". And people thought since America was getting wider & expanding more & gaining more land they were obligated to move west.

During the Indian Removal Act indians were being forced to move west farther away from their original land. They were doing everything they could to stay where they were but in the end Congress made them move.

Westward Expansion was a simplified list of the land that the US owned that began with American independence. The government saw opportunities for more land as well as more political power. Native Americans moved westward because they believed that the expansion was visible and unalterable. As the US made its boundaries larger, more branches were established to serve the nation that was growing

The Cherokee, Choctaw, Chicksaw, and Creek Indians held millions of acres in the sourthern cotton kingdom stretching across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Two political issues were whether the U.S government and its citizens would abide by previously made treaties and whether those Native Anerica peoples would be permitted to block white expansion. The governemnt gave money to missionaries in order to educate Native Americans and convince them to adpot single-family farms. By the 1820s, the Cherokee had demonstrated the ability of Native Americans to maintain tribal heritage while adapting to the changing conditions. They also adopted a constitution asserting sovereignty over their land and they fell under the states rule because they abolished tribal rule. Gold was found on Cherokee land. The Indian Removal Act fits the Westward Expansion because it talks about how the Western nation were penetrating into many frontier areas, like Russia, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, and the American West.

James W. Marshall found several bright bits of yellow mineral near a sawmill. The Californian, printed articles about the “fool's gold”. 80,000 men arrived in California because of the gold. Half came on land and half on ship including British, Australians, Germans, French, Latin Americans, and Chinese. The immigrants who traveled to California were called forty-niners. This linked to Westward Expansion because all gold brought settlers to California. The gold rush transformed California into a wild, unruly, and ethnically-diverse place.

Indian Removal Act and Manifest Destiny

The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was an Act passsed by Congress stating that all Native Americans had to move west of the Mississippi River. One tribe that had to take this journey was the Cherokee. The Cherokee tribe was from Florida and had to take the long journey to the west know as "The Trail of Tears". The President that was in office at the time of this Act was Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States. Lastly, the Indian Removal Act was disrespectful to the Native Americans because they were on this territory much longer then we have been and as a result they have to keep moving west.

"Manifest Destiny" was a belief that United States wanted to expand westward across their country. The term "Manifest Destiny" means obvious or undeniable fate. The creator of the term "Manifest Destiny" was John O' Sullivan and defined this article in 1845. Americans thought that this movement encouraged them to dream big and move out west to start a new life and achieve your goals. Lastly, "Manifest Destiny" was an important part of our history and a key role of how people thought of their beliefs back then.

1) Manifest Destiny means obvious of undeniable. This lead to the conclusion that the US sould go from Atlantic to Pacificand Pacific Northwest, including the southern border of Alaska. This made all americans crave new land.

2.) Indian Removal Act was in 1830. its when people made Indians move west. Andrew Jackson was the one to astablish this. He wanted to move the Indians from their land. Congress did everything to get rid of the Indians including bribes and treatys. The Cherokee Indians were affected most by this. They were forced to move. This fits in to the westward expansion act because when the Indians were forced west there was more room in the east for others.

3) The California gold rush made california a booming new town. Every one from east to west wanted to go to california trying to strike it rich . All they cared about was themselfs. This took part in the westward expansion because as people left for California they left there towns to go to califoria. Very few struck it rich. After 5 years the rush was over and california turned into a ghost town. By everyone else leaving california that left new land for new americans.
