Glory

The following paragraph is taken from another blog. It will help put a historical perspective on the final scene of the movie...

"As far as the assault on Wagner, the movie is pretty accurate. Yes, it incorrectly has the assault coming from the wrong direction, but that really is not essential. Further, it is true that because the 54th had fought so effectively at James Island days before that it won the admiration of the white Federal troops to the extent that it did march through thirteen white Federal regiments, many of whom cheered. Yes, Shaw gave some letters to Edward Pierce the newspaper correspondent before the assault. And yes, Shaw led the assault and was killed largely as shown in the movie. However, unlike in the movie, not all of the 600 men of the 54th were killed—though 272 killed, wounded or captured is surely a significant share for a single engagement. It should be noted that another 1,200 Federal white troops were also killed, wounded or captured at Wagner. Finally, it is true that the Confederate commander at Wagner ordered Shaw’s body to be thrown into a ditch with his dead black comrades as an insult. When Shaw’s parents learned of this act his father wrote Edward Pierce that they could hope for “no holier place” for their son’s body. Indeed, one month later after Wagner fell, they told the Union commander not to move Shaw’s body."

After viewing the film, I hope you have a better understanding of the contributions of African Americans during the Civil War. In your opinion, what was the most memorable and inspiring scene in Glory? Be sure to describe the scene and state your reasons as to why you liked it.

Also, don't forget about your 2 interviews that are due at the end of this quarter. Get them done over break!!

I think one of the most inspiring parts was when Shaw offered to lead the attack on the Confederate fort. He expressed how proud he was of how well his men fought in the earlier battle and how they might of not had enough sleep, but they had character and the strength in their hearts to go on and show their worth.

I think one of the most inspiring parts of the movie was when Thomas went down in the first battle and was told by the major that he was going home. He asked Shaw if he would promise him that he wasn't going home. He ended up not going home and fought hard in the second battle.

The most inspiring pat of the movie was when the general took charge of the 54th and there wasa a lot of people that volenteered. This is inspiring because it showed that the 54th was ready to figt for what they tought was right.

The most memorable and inspiring scene in glory would have to be when shaw read the letter to all of his men about either bring killed or captured and used as slaves. This scene seemed inspiring because all of his men didnt care and still wanted to go out and fight no matter what would happen to them.

I thought the most inspiring scene in Glory would have to be when Shaw read the letter to all of his soldiers saying they would either bring killed or captured and used as slaves, if continuing in the war. This scene seemed most inspiring to me because all of the soldiers still wanted to go out and fight no matter what would happen to them. It showed that the soldiers were brave even when bad things could happen to them.

I believe the most inspiring part of the movie Glory was when all the "Black" men showed up to fight, when the the leaders had dought that they would'nt. Although they specifically stated the consequences for being taken as a prisoner or the fact that there were going to be many casualities, i was pleased to see that not one man let down the others by not not showing up that morning.

I think one of the most inspiring parts was when Shaw read the letter to his men. I think this is inspiring because the men didnt care what would happen to them. They just fought the best they could for their Union and for each other.

The most inspiring part in my opinion is the part when the men are told they cant fight or they would be punished. They also where told that the pay would be very low and the men still showed up to fight.

I THOUGHT THE MOST INSPIRING PART OF GLORY WAS WHEN SHAW DECIDED TO TO LEAD THE 54TH AS CAPTAIN INTO WAR, THIS WAS SAYING THAT HE DIDNT CARE OF THE MENS SKIN COLOR AND THAT NO MATTER WHO THEY WHERE THAT THEY WOULD BE TREATED EQAUL.
